Elephant 6 Collective

A group of like-minded musicians bonded by a skewed pop sensibility, an irrepressible streak of whimsy, and taste for obscure instruments (singing saws, theremins, a 7-foot-tall metronome), the Elephant 6 Recording Company issued an unimpeachable stream of psychedelia from Athens, Georgia in the ’90s. Comprising such acts as Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, and Olivia Tremor Control, the sprawling collective split in 2002—as sprawling collectives are wont to do—but its members continued to collaborate, now regrouped under the E6 banner for 2011’s Holiday Surprise Tour—never mind the fact that the holidays are long-since past.
