Elf Power has spent the past decade or so maturing from an Elephant 6 also-ran to one of indie rock’s most consistently engaging bands. Born from the same Athens, Georgia, seed as Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel, the group twisted through psychedelic bedroom fables and punk-infused power-grabs on strong albums like A Dream In Sound and 2008’s In A Cave. Later that year, Athens mainstay Vic Chesnutt led the group on Dark Developments, a surly send-off to the Bush administration. The band honors the late songwriter on its self-titled 10th album with a mournful, subdued touch to their lo-fi folk-pop.
