Elvis Perkins In Dearland

As befitting the son of Anthony Perkins, the late actor who played the psycho in Psycho, Elvis Perkins knows how to summon a certain atmosphere—in his case, a troubadour’s sense of shabby authenticity. Mournful brass and scratchy strings both make appearances on Perkins’ latest release,The Doomsday EP, a title that aptly conveys the sense of menace buried beneath its very pretty songs. The real standout, however, is Perkins’ voice, which sounds at once very young and very tired.
