Enter The Haggis
Enter The Haggis sounds like a simple, if bizarre, band name until you remember that haggis is a traditional Scottish dish made by mixing a sheep’s heart, lungs, and liver with oatmeal, onions, and spices and—as if it weren’t sufficiently not-kosher already—boiling it all together in a sheep’s stomach. The band, however, uses little to no sheep parts in making its Celtic-rooted punk folk. The five-man Toronto group’s only non-Canadian member is a real, live Scotsman on the bagpipes. Since its inception in 1996, the band has explored many different styles over the course of eight albums. With Dropkick Murphys-type drinking songs under its belt, the band inches toward almost Snow Patrol-like soft folk on its latest, Whitelake.
