Erasure

The embodiment of an ’80s synth-pop scene full of embodiments, Erasure formed in 1985, when Depeche Mode co-founder Vince Clarke teamed with falsetto-flaunting frontman Andy Bell. The English duo first hit big in the U.S. with the inescapable singles “Chains Of Love” and “A Little Respect,” both from 1988’s The Innocents. Nothing else caught on in the same way, but Erasure kept pumping out albums at a steady clip, dipping into ambient and techno territories between spells of purist synth-pop. The group plays here behind its upcoming Tomorrow’s World, due out October 4.
