HOLIDAY SALE AT THE ONION STORE

Artist Erin McKeown

  • Merri Cyr

If her constant label-jumping and genre-shifting are any indication, Erin McKeown doesn’t like the idea of getting too settled. The multi-instrumentalist and songwriter launched her own label, TVP Records, in the late ’90s and used it to release her first album. (Signature later reissued 2000’s stripped-down Distillation.) After using two different approaches for 2003’s Grand (Nettwerk Records) and 2005’s We Will Become Like Birds, she released 2008’s sparkling Small Deviant Things, Vol. 1 on TVP. McKeown switched gears again to release 2009’s Hundreds Of Lions on yet another label—Righteous Babe. Three of that album’s jazz-pop-influenced songs made it onto live EP 3 Songs, out in 2010. McKeown’s most recent release is the Fuck That! Anti-Holiday Album, which features irreverent lyrics set to classic Christmas melodies.
