In a press release from last July, Escape The Fate bassist Max Green said that the band’s third full-length would be “the cure for the modern day music epidemic. […] We are wiping the slate clean and re-writing rock music as you know it.” The result is, uh, not quite that earth-shattering, as Escape The Fate is an exercise in unremarkable, overdramatic, and occasionally entertaining metal/hard rock. The Las Vegas band has received several comparisons to Avenged Sevenfold, and with fair reason: Both groups stem from metalcore/post-hardcore backgrounds and have evolved into entities ever-likely to cover Guns N’ Roses or ’80s hair metal. But even if Escape’s output can’t justify the grandiose claims, at least there’s been evolution, right?
