Artist Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi established the blueprint for young filmmakers with small budgets, clever ideas, and little interest in art for art’s sake with his debut film, The Evil Dead: Make a grubby genre picture loaded with ironic humor and excessive style. Raimi would later essentially remake the movie as the self-consciously campier (and more fun) Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn. Five college students—led by the now-iconic Bruce Campbell—visit a cabin in the woods, discover an ancient text, and unleash a demonic force that sends them on a killing spree. Raimi’s inventive approach to visceral shocks juices the story, with slapstick nods to The Three Stooges amid the dance of severed limbs and invisible spirits.
