Artist Fair Use Trio

  • Fair Use Trio

Named for the handy legal concept that allows people to take some liberties with the use of copyrighted material, the two musicians and one video artist of Fair Use Trio conspire to artfully scramble Hollywood films' place in the popular mind. The Trio has even shouldered the task of making 2001: A Space Odyssey more trippy than it already is via its live reworkings of imagery and soundtrack, condensing all its traumas and interstellar leaps and rendering it at once barely recognizable and viscerally, jarringly familiar. So much for just trying to sync up your favorite movies with Pink Floyd albums: The Fair Use Trio somehow manages to honor the spirit of its sources by embracing culture-jamming dissonance.
