Fang Island
Brooklyn’s Fang Island counts Andrew W.K. as a close musical compatriot—it recently issued a limited release 7-inch featuring the W.K.’d track “Patterns On The Wall”—which should be extremely telling about the kind of guitar-based bombast the band piles on its recent self-titled sophomore effort. It’s an infinite sound that rockets skyward on the back of not-quite-power-metal-worthy guitar harmonies, free of traditional song structure and often put in service of unintelligible chants. On tracks like “Daisy” and “Treeton,” the band makes a joyous, unpredictable noise that could act as the perfect playlist bridge between Animal Collective’s “Brothersport” and Yes’ “Roundabout.”
