Fastball
Outside of Austin, Fastball is best remembered for its breakthrough record, 1998’s All The Pain Money Can Buy, which spawned the radio staple “The Way.” But in the Live Music Capital Of The World, Fastball is a group of hometown heroes that never skipped town, staying loyal to the fans that made the band while releasing a stream of sharp records that recall the golden age of power-pop. The sophisticated songwriting and slick production of 2009’s Little White Lies are typical of late-period Fastball, and while the band members have grown into quite the studio wizards, they still possess a precise live attack. There’s no word on a follow-up, but vocalist-multi-instrumentalist Tony Scalzo is currently working on a solo record.
