Fergus & Geronimo

Fergus & Geronimo’s Andrew Savage and Jason Kelly travel all over the musical map on their Hardly Art LP, Unlearn, visiting everything from a jangling damnation of music critics to a sax-powered critique of crunchy new bohemia to doo-wop ballads that nearly approach sincerity. That sense of humor and restlessness connects Savage and Kelly to the lineage of rock jesters like Frank Zappa, but they thankfully eschews that forbear’s wankier tendencies. Instead, Unlearn’s jokes and non-jokes are all couched in blood-simple pop numbers that rarely reach beyond the two-minute mark.
