Field Music

Brothers David and Peter Brewis put their baroque pop outfit Field Music on hold following 2007’s Tones Of Town, choosing instead to explore divergent musical paths hinted at by the band’s off-kilter tunes. Following the experimentalism of David’s School Of Language and the radio-ready hooks of Peter’s The Week That Was, Field Music returned this past February with Measure, a sprawling effort that seemingly incorporates every sonic idea the Brewises couldn’t execute alone. This makes for some jarring tonal shifts and half-formed songs, but when Measure hits the right balance of fussy studio wizardry and heartfelt Britpop, it’s hard to believe Field Music ever went away.
