Fishbone
Coming out of the same diverse genre-mashing Los Angeles music scene that spawned Red Hot Chili Peppers and Thelonious Monster, Fishbone started its musical life in 1979 as an all-black, eccentric, crowd-pleasing ska and reggae band. Eventually, like their friends in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the group began incorporating more guitars into their music. And again, like their friends in the Chili Peppers, the band is still doing its “thing,” albeit with far less long-term commercial success. But even if that “thing” is kind of repetitive and even if they’ve been doing it for more than 30 years, it’s still kind of fun, especially with frontman Angelo Moore (a.k.a. Dr. Madd Vibe) and his energetic stage presence.
