Fitz And The Tantrums

Fitz And The Tantrums

Fitz And The Tantrums’ meteoric rise can partly be attributed to the current resurgence of Stax-era American soul, but simply throwing the band onto the pile alongside contemporaries Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings would be overlooking Michael Fitzpatrick and company’s ability to incorporate the brassy bump of soul while keeping things current. From the group’s beginnings, inspired by Fitzpatrick’s acquisition of an old church organ, up to the 2010 release of its debut full-length, Pickin’ Up The Pieces, Fitz And The Tantrums have placed a lot of energy in songs like “Breakin’ The Chains Of Love” and “MoneyGrabber” that shake off the dust dated influences sometimes accumulate. While they’re not breaking any musical ground, the Tantrums are fun to watch, all the same.
