Flying Lotus
Flying Lotus is a Los Angeles producer who makes some of the weirdest, wooziest hip-hop around, with a weird/woozy level that consistently outdoes that of peers like Prefuse 73, Danger Mouse, and Madlib. (Well, maybe not always Madlib.) He generally favors tracks without vocals, though he has turned out memorable remixes for Lil Wayne and Radiohead. His 2008 debut for Warp, Los Angeles, was a soothing, liquid affair full of squishy beats and digitally distorted ambience; the forthcoming follow-up, Cosmogramma, is a self-avowed “space opera” with guest spots from Erykah Badu and Thom Yorke.
