The heart of Followed By Static beats from a place of spareness and spookiness, where noisy experimentalism is the mother tongue. The band’s side of its recent split 7-inch with Bonnibonita, “OK,” smoothes some of the rougher edges of the Followed By Static sound, marrying more controlled garage-rock vamping to lead singer E. Static’s antisocial posturing—and even classing things up with a smattering of brass. Elsewhere, the band continues to light cherry bombs at the center of otherwise tired soft-loud-soft song structures, as simple guitar figures and washes of synth tumble into epic feedback jams.
