Fountains Of Wayne
Fountains Of Wayne made their name on beaming, guitar-and-harmony-saturated power-pop tunes (“Radiation Vibe,” “Stacy’s Mom”) blessed with meaty choruses and cheeky humor in an era when rock radio often needed to lighten the hell up. It’s been eight years since Welcome Interstate Managers made Fountains Of Wayne unlikely hit-makers—if only because songs as good as “Stacy’s Mom” seldom make it to MTV—but thankfully, little has changed: The loveable losers on their newSky Full Of Holes could easily be the cousins or brothers and sisters of the suburban dreamers documented on previous FOW albums. Live, Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood carry themselves like workaday songwriter guys from a throwback era.
