Frantic Clam
When it comes to musical trends that should be left for the '00s, hipster-bashing and homages to porn stars probably deserve to be near the top of the list. Yet leave it to a group of idiosyncratic nutballs like Austin's Frantic Clam to suddenly breathe glittery, hooky life into tired subjects with "Hipster" and "Sasha Grey," two tracks from its upcoming slab of twisted glam, Lolita, the follow-up to 2009's well-received Anatomica EP. That vocalist Zack Hadley has turned his attention from Grindhouse's Mary Elizabeth Winstead to spank queen Grey signals nerve-rending desperation (and dude definitely has a type), while every shake of the tambourine in "Hipster" signals a glorious loss of self-control.
