A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Freedy Johnston

  • Freedy Johnston Chris Carroll

Freedy Johnston seems to have a lot of patience, sticking to simple, balanced sounds that prove handy vehicles for his thick stack of songs. His tunes survey the world from a serenely wise viewpoint, but they’re not bland, and his voice carries plenty of pure, welcoming melodies. This, coupled with Johnston’s unassuming persona and sense of humor, has equaled a recipe for consistency since he began putting out solo albums in 1990.
