Fresh Cut Collective walks a path forged by Milwaukee predecessors Def Harmonic, Black Elephant, and Growing Nation, playing groove-centric hip-hop. Fresh Cut’s rock pedigree—it includes former members of Fly Neurotic and Those Royals—allows the group to slink in and out of genres, feels, and textures, fusing hip-hop with a variety of musical forms. Fresh Cut Collective’s forays into 311-style reggae-rock are a little predictable, but when the group merges hip-hip with chamber rock, it gets weirdly refreshing in a hurry.
