Friendly Fires
Friendly Fires may fit in with the current spate of exhausting electro-pop groups, but the British band is armed with a depth of range and eager sensibility that portend a more enduring career. On its self-titled debut, the trio’s adolescent days as a punk outfit manifest in concise compositions, while the band’s mature tastes and experimental edge come across in waves of glittery disco-pop and heavy instrumentation. Single “Live Those Days Tonight,” from the new Pala, has the anthemic fist-pumping fit for radio frenzy, but is tempered by dynamic pacing and the kind of self-conscious, nostalgia-damning lyrics that promise heads will be doing more than just bobbing.
