Future Rock

While no doubt inspired by Basement Jaxx, Daft Punk, and other crossover acts that helped turn head-nodding rock fans into dance-music connoisseurs, Future Rock is at heart a jam band. Songs meander and stretch on (and on and on), with enough round drums and fat bass to please fans of similar groups, like Sound Tribe Sector 9 and Disco Biscuits, that dominate this particular niche. But Future Rock’s sound is more concise—a middle ground, of sorts, between dance and wankery—with an emphasis on strong melodies and bleepy, bloopy synthesizers. Its most recent release is 2011’s Nights, a five-song EP the band released as a free download.
