A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

Artist Gallows

  • Gallows
Gallows is a British band that’s been making waves overseas for a couple of years and started getting Stateside attention when Epitaph reissued its 2006 debut, Orchestra Of Wolves. Frontman Frank Carter is a dead ringer for a young Johnny Rotten, while Orchestra sports a vicious mix of Refused’s progressive hardcore and the punk-rock action of Hot Snakes. The band’s forthcoming Grey Britain is reportedly an uncompromising appraisal of the many ways, in Carter’s words, “Britain is fucked”—although its hardcore bleakness has been abated somewhat by the addition of the occasional orchestral flourish.
