Gary Numan

Gary Numan

Gary Numan formed an unlikely bridge between punk and the early days of synth-pop with his band Tubeway Army’s 1979 album Replicas and his subsequent solo debut The Pleasure Principle, and American audiences have thanked him for it by not remembering much beyond the single “Cars.” Numan has continued to push on through less-glamorous periods as even his initial stardom dried up, winding up in well-crafted, if less-distinct industrial territory on 2006’s Jagged. This year he’s indulging more casual fans with a tour that celebrates The Pleasure Principle’s 30th anniversary. Numan and band will play the entire album (with Numan playing a lot of keyboards onstage for the first time in a while), and then move on into newer songs, including stuff he’s working on for the forthcoming Splinter.
