Gary Wilson

A storied weirdo who rose up and disappeared in the ’70s, Gary Wilson had been a pet obsession of record collectors for years before his 1977 album,You Think You Really Know Me, came out on CD in 2002. Wilson has been relatively active since his rediscovery: He’s played a series of live shows, put out five albums—three more than he did pre-hiatus—and participated in a documentary film called You Think You Really Know Me: The Gary Wilson Story. His newest album, Feel The Beat, sticks to the mind-bending collision of funky noise, swanky melodies, and warped lyrics that made Wilson a word-of-mouth idol in the first place. He’s been around for a while now, but Wilson’s live show still counts as good, weird, and ever-so-slightly unhinged.
