Three cheers for having a plan and sticking to it. By setting all their songs at 69 BPM, Gayngs masterminds Ryan Olson, Adam Hurlburt, and Zach Coulter made a cohesive, fascinating record. Relayted is an album you need to listen to front-to-back to truly absorb; it’s built like a sexy bedroom mix-tape that gets the actual sex quickly out of the way with “The Gaudy Side Of Town.” Live, the band is a suitably ridiculous group of sprawling slow-jammers, given to George Michael covers and outlandish stage attire, none of which distract from the band’s strange, sincere relationship with its smooth and druggy inspirations.
