Ween is so genuinely, helplessly odd that it tends to squirm its way out of even the categories where other odd bands end up. But what results when Gene Ween steps away from “brother” Dean and hunkers down with an acoustic guitar is surprisingly accessible, and makes the band’s dense catalog of oddball songs seem downright normal and radio-friendly. His shows mix covers and plenty of favorites from across Ween’s 20-year run of albums, the most recent of which is 2007’s La Cucaracha.After all, don’t lyrics about tri-color pasta and mollusks beg for some feel-good intimacy?
