After its timeslot was shuffled around as part of The Great Conan-On-TBS Debacle, George Lopez’s Lopez Tonight was canceled altogether after just two seasons. That’s okay though, because if Lopez’s stand-up routines are to be believed, the comedian has bounced back from worse than this before. Though Lopez Tonight claimed to “bring the party back to late night,” nothing about it warranted much celebration—unless you found bits like the one that placed the cast of Jersey Shore in roles in Oscar-nominated films particularly inspired. Still, Lopez’s manic energy makes even the most warmed-over comedy seem fresh, a quality that benefits his raucous stand-up. He’s taken that frenetic spirit and iffy reputation to the silver screen as the voice of Grouchy Smurf in the equally iffy 2011 Smurfs movie.
