George Strait
A mega-star in the world of modern country, George Strait owned the charts for much of the ’80s and early ’90s, until his rule was usurped—or at least challenged—by Garth Brooks. He’s still a force to be reckoned with, of course, and the title of his 2004 greatest-hits compilation, 50 Number Ones, speaks volumes about his continuing command of the country charts. His latest record, 2009’s Twang, helped extended the Strait dynasty into a second generation—Strait’s son Bubba helped pen the record’s lead single, slow-burning weeper “Living For The Night.”
