Gold Motel
Gold Motel’s debut full-length, Summer House, couldn’t be more aptly named. Lush and sunny, Summer’s songs exude an inspired warmth that could brighten up the day of even the most dedicated Prozac abuser. The face of that positivity is Greta Salpeter, former lead singer and pianist of The Hush Sound, who had a respectable three-record run on Fueled By Ramen. Soon after The Hush Sound announced it’d be going on indefinite hiatus back in late 2008, Salpeter re-emerged as “Greta Morgan” with Gold Motel’s debut EP. Summer’s tinkling bells, taut rhythms, and fuzzy bass wouldn’t sound out of place on a ’50s radio station, making it a nice nostalgic respite from the here and now. Fans can look forward to a new record from the band sometime next spring.
