Gospel Gossip

Gospel Gossip is one of the leaders of Minneapolis’ fledgling psychedelic rock scene, which is to say that most out-of-town press mentions find a way to include Prince, The Replacements, and “Chocolate Rain” viral-video star Tay Zonday into the lede before getting to the issue at hand. Well, now that that’s out of the way, how about Gospel Gossip? The trio revels in airy atmospherics and forceful contrasts, with a sound that’s equal parts shoegaze and shitstorm. It’s a volatile blend, and it’s Gospel Gossip’s great fortune that vocalist Sarah Nienaber’s pixie howl prevents the band’s songs from crashing to the ground—or, occasionally, from floating away.
