Philadelphia’s Grandchildren essentially hurl the kitchen sink into their music making process, amounting in a surplus of ideas that don’t always match up in inspiration and execution. Clicking and clattering percussion tugs and pulls at the much more paced vocals and guitars, occasionally giving way to dramatic finishes as on “Cold Warrior,” off the group’s debut Everlasting. Electronic flourishes spring up out of nowhere, but when they settle back down and intertwine with the acoustic, orchestral elements of songs like the churning “Saturn Returns,” they pump up the wattage rather than fry the circuits.
