Artist Green Velvet

Green Velvet—né Curtis Jones, and sometimes known as Cajmere and a handful of lesser-known pseudonyms—is something of a techno legend. On classic tracks such as “Answering Machine” and “Flash,” he fused jittery, funk-laden electro and techno with hilarious skit-style vocals to excellent effect. While those tracks, and a handful of other Velvet classics, have become standards for any number of DJs throughout the years, few have followed in Velvet’s distinctive footsteps. In a sense, that’s unfortunate—techno could definitely use an injection of humor—but it’s only served to further mark him as a genuine original.
