Artist Greg Ginn And The Taylor Texas Corrugators

With folks as diverse as Akon and Neil Hamburger getting into the country-music business, it’s hardly surprising to find Black Flag’s Greg Ginn indulging his taste for Western swing with lark project The Taylor Texas Corrugators. Longtime fans know that Ginn’s fretwork has dipped into jazz since at least Slip It In, so they should be prepared for the bent, twangy loops that dominate his band’s rhythm and blues. Somewhere between parody and “purposeful cliché,” the Corrugators are neither authentic enough for the traditional crowd nor tongue-in-cheek enough for parody, but for anyone wanting an intimate night with one of punk’s most enduring icons, here’s an excellent opportunity—just don’t expect to hear a hillbilly take on “Spray Paint (The Walls).”
