Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day

The 1993 flick Groundhog Day is one of the best and most poignant comedies Bill Murray ever made, largely because director Harold Ramis and screenwriter Danny Rubin don’t spend a whole lot of time fussing over the premise. Murray plays a weatherman who relives the same day in Punxsutawney, Pa., over and over. But rather than coming up with some big explanation for the cycle or having Murray deny his experience for the first hour (the old It’s A Wonderful Life syndrome), Ramis and Rubin just dig in and get to work frankly and humorously considering what a man would do if he could make all the mistakes he wanted and wake up each morning with a clean slate.
