G-Side

Thanks to the playing field-leveling power of the Internet, rappers from truly underground locales can rise to semi-fame and be mentioned alongside the few major-label rap signees that still exist. Like Huntsville, Alabama’s favorite sons, G-Side, the duo of ST 2 Lettaz and Yung Clova, who have parlayed multiple free albums (most recently, 2011’s Island) into features in Spin, European tours, and headlining U.S. tours. Taking breaks from their day jobs of cutting hair and working at a gas station to cut records with local producing powerhouses Block Beataz, G-Side approaches rap as a means of expressing its blue collar frustration as much as a means of getting out of Huntsville.
