HOLIDAY SALE AT THE ONION STORE

Artist Ha Ha Tonka

Missouri’s Ha Ha Tonka didn’t take long to get its strengths across on 2007’s Buckle In The Bible Belt. Not only did it clock in at just a half-hour, but the disc and the band’s live show thrived on a tight binding of old-timey, four-part harmonies, excitable piano and guitar grooves, and a heap of youthful indignation. After that twangy blast of an introduction, it’s understandable the band would want to slow down and build some suspense, which is what happens on the follow-up, Novel Sounds Of The Nouveau South. The band’s latest, Death Of A Decade, recorded in a 200-year-old barn, shows the band as a warmer, more cohesive force than ever before. Still, it’s music to swill cheap whiskey to.
