Hal Holbrook
Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated actor Hal Holbrook has had a long, esteemed career in films like All The President’s Men, Wall Street, and Into The Wild, but the one role that’s loomed largest is that of Mark Twain in the Tony-winning Mark Twain Tonight. Holbrook first launched his one-man show in 1954, and in the decades since he’s performed it thousands of times on stages across the world, to the point where Holbrook (at 84) is now older than the character he’s portraying. Remarkably, considering he’s been doing this since Ed Sullivan’s day, Holbrook continues to bring a spry spontaneity to the Southern satirist’s (mostly) comic works, anchored by the confidence that comes from more than half a century of practice.
