Handsome Furs

Handsome Furs emerged from Montreal in late 2006 as yet another offshoot of the outstanding Wolf Parade. This permutation includes WP co-principal Dan Boeckner and his electronically inclined wife, Alexei Perry; on their Sub Pop debut, Plague Park, they provide enough chilling mechanical distance (by way of drum machine) and heaving, anthemic vocal cries to recruit new-wave diehards and indie-poppers alike. On 2009’s follow-up, Face Control, the pair amplifies its sound with a dose of pseudo-poptimist rock energy, which continues on the recent Sound Kapital, a punchy keyboard-riddled album that takes listeners on a tour of the Eastern Bloc.
