Hanson
Love it or hate it, “MMMBop” became a pop classic that offered one last breath of innocence before radio turned ugly and/or utterly vapid. With the rise of boy bands, mini Mariah Careys, and rap-rock nasties, Hanson’s days were numbered, and when the young trio’s sound—and voices—matured, it was shunned by radio and MTV alike. Not like Hanson needs the support: The recent Shout It Out is the brothers’ third album for their own 3CG Records, and they still command a fervent (if somewhat reduced) fan base. The record also marks the Hansons’ continued interest in studied studio professionalism, channeling their signature enthusiasm into hooks that’d make a peak-period John Oates quake behind his mustache.
