Denver’s Havok owes a lot of its thrash-metal riffage to model ’80s acts like Testament and Overkill. And while the band may take its technical musicianship seriously, it also knows how to have a little fun with it. (See its now out-of-print 2007 EP, Pwn ’Em All.) Having since signed to Candlelight Records, Havok debuted a proper full-length—the simply titled Burn—in 2009 and is prepping the follow-up, Time Is Up, for release this March.
