Head Automatica
When it was formed in 2003 by vocalist Daryl Palumbo of hardcore band Glassjaw and producer Dan “The Automator” Nakamura of Gorillaz and Handsome Boy Modeling School, Head Automatica posed an interesting question: What wild mash-ups would result from a partnership between an innovative hip-hop beatmaker and a self-possessed screamo singer? Unfortunately, the answer revealed by the duo’s 2004 debut, Decadence, was “really disappointing ones.” Undeterred, Palumbo headed back into the studio—sans Nakamura—to create a more power-pop-oriented record along the lines of Squeeze and early Elvis Costello on the 2006 album Popaganda. Palumbo recently announced that a third album, Swan Damage, was nearing completion. It's due out in 2010.
