Artist Heartless Bastards

Despite sporting a more straightforward take on rock than typically associated with Mississippi shack-blues outlet Fat Possum Records, Cincinnati’s Heartless Bastards inked a deal with the label thanks to some kind words from The Black Keys' Patrick Carney. The Bastards’ 2005 debut, Stairs And Elevators, found lots of fans and received plenty of glowing reviews, most of which focused on singer-guitarist Erika Wennerstrom and her powerful vocals. The group incorporated slivers of pop, folk, and even sparse, lazy orchestral arrangements on 2006’s All This Time, while third album The Mountain was deftly recorded with producer Mike McCarthy .
