Henson Alternative: Stuffed And Unstrung

If you’re of a certain age and inclination, the mere mention of Jim Henson and the Muppets is guaranteed to warm your heart and elicit a bittersweet “awwww.” But while fond memories and a new movie on the horizon are nice, the crassly titled Stuffed And Unstrung is anything but warm and fuzzy. The show is an R-rated comedy and variety show, and it features six puppeteers improvising songs and sketches based on audience participation. (Think Whose Line Is It Anyway? but with more felt.) It also falls under the company’s “Henson Alternative” banner, so while Kermit, Fozzie, and those two old guys who sat in the balcony won’t be making appearances, all of the puppets are 100 percent, grade-A, Henson-quality characters. Oh, and they swear!
