Artist Here Come The Mummies

Mummified remains, boner comedy, and funk music rarely walk the earth together. Yet Here Come The Mummies’ stubborn refusal to ever relent on the schtick of being a large funk-ska-rock band dressed up as mummies tossing off perverted jokes, like “pink banana” and “wearing out the sideways frown,” threatens to unravel even the most patient novelty music fans. But on the band’s 2011 album,Bed, Bath, And Behind, the groovy ghouls deserve credit for perfecting their hyper-produced, prime time television soul, tossing off gross come-ons like “climb aboard the banana boat and bring your tangerines,” and staying committed to a gimmick that should have been entombed thousands of years ago.
