Hey Champ
Like its Rockford, Illinois, compatriot, Cheap Trick, Hey Champ specializes in an especially melodic and energetic blend of pop and rock. But while Cheap Trick cranks its guitars up to 11 and wants everyone to want them, Hey Champ sets its synthesizers to "groove" and wants everyone to dance. Soaring keyboard lines and synthesized beats provide the bed for the band's extraterrestrial lyrics, which often explore themes of intergalactic love and intrigue. Guitarist Saam Hagshenas and drummer Jon Marks share singing duties, each playing off the other's swaggering charm. Hey Champ is currently on the upswing, having made its way onto the lineups of some of the largest festivals this year following the recent release of its debut, Star.
