Moviemaking can be a seat-of-your-pants adventure in the best of circumstances, but improvising an entire feature? That’s got to be hair-raising. Fortunately, under the directorial tutelage of Upright Citizens Brigade founder Matt Walsh, the cast of High Road was able to make it work. Centering around a dude torn between his band, selling drugs, and his pregnant girlfriend, the movie quickly devolves into hijinks after said main character has a deal go awry, leading to a series of car chases and gun battles. The plat is a little bit convoluted, but the cast—including Ed Helms, Horatio Sanz, Abby Elliott, Rob Riggle, and Lizzy Caplan—is top-notch. If nothing else, it’s a worthwhile watch just to see how something this odd can come together so spontaneously.
