Giving Slipknot a serious run for its money in the category of “Most Ridiculous Masked Band,” California’s Hollywood Undead spits its meathead, metal-tinged “rapcore” anthems from behind super-scary bandanas and other identity-concealing headgear—but then, you try to keep a straight face while offering up wanksta boasts like, “Paris Hilton said ‘That’s hot’ when she saw my cock.” The group sticks to idle threats to kick your ass or fuck your girl when it’s not getting, like, all emotional on the embarrassing break-up ballad “Circles,” creating a perfect amalgam of Linkin Park and Insane Clown Posse. Strong sales of its latest album, this year’sAmerican Tragedy, prove the band’s die-hard fans haven’t tired of the formula.
