Holy Ghost
Making music together since their teens, Alex Frankel and Nicholas Millhiser signed to Capitol Records in 2000 as part of New York hip-hop group Automato. Eventually, the duo split off to pursue a different perspective, reemerging in 2007 as DJ team Holy Ghost, releasing its first single “Hold On” for tastemakers DFA. Much like that of LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost’s work—both on record and live—is equal parts nü-disco and New Order, using both vinyl and laptop methods. Reworking the sounds of MGMT, Moby, and Phoenix, Holy Ghost’s The Remixes Vol. 1 mix-tape was released in 2009, followed by the release of its self-titled debut DFA album this past April. Inspired by its own creativity, the duo just released an album featuring four versions of its own song.
